Certified Shari'ah Compliance Officer

It is for Shari'ah compliance officers and heads of Shari'ah compliance departments, SSB secretariat staff, and risk, legal and operations staff who work with them. It covers the Shari'ah compliance function under AAOIFI Governance Standard No. 9: management's responsibility, preventive controls, the COSO-based control framework, the compliance department's structure, reporting lines, duties, tools, escalation and reports. It places that work within the Shari'ah governance framework it serves: the hierarchy of Shari'ah principles and rules and the roles of the board and management (GS 1, 2024), the SSB's functions and escalation protocol (GS 20), the Shari'ah decision-making process (GS 18), the SSB's review and report (GS 21), and safeguards for Islamic subsidiaries (GS 22).

How it works: study the linked courses The Shari'ah Governance Framework and the Shari'ah Supervisory Board and Shari'ah Compliance, Internal Shari'ah Audit and Ratings, then sit a 40-question certification exam in 75 minutes. The pass mark is 70%, and the certificate is valid for three years.

This is an independent ifSPACE certification. It is free, it is not an AAOIFI qualification, and it is not accredited or endorsed by AAOIFI or any regulator.
